Alexandre Gustave Eiffel (15 de diciembre de 1832, Dijon - 27 de diciembre de 1923, París) era un ingeniero y arquitecto francés, especialista en estructuras metálicas. El apellido Eiffiel fue adoptado por uno de sus antepasados a principios del siglo XVIII, tomado de su lugar de nacimiento: Marmagen, en la región de Eifel, ya que en francés no se podía pronunciar su verdadero apellido: Bönickhausen.
